Crawford & Company’s Catastrophe Management Services (CAT) unit helps insurers meet their expanded claims adjusting needs when volume spikes upward.
 
Following a natural or man-made disaster, policyholders, and claimants expect fast, responsive service. CAT Services is available 24/7/365 to any client in need. CAT Services handles localized catastrophes as well as disasters with widespread effects and can quickly set up a full-service claims handling operation anywhere:
  • Crawford utilizes its full range of resources to prepare for and respond to catastrophic events. Before, during, and after catastrophes, representatives of every business unit and every corporate function meet daily to plan, discuss contingencies, and assign responsibilities. CAT actively tracks hurricanes and other foreseeable events, keeps clients appraised of developments, and deploys claims professionals in advance.
  • With unforeseen events such as tornadoes, CAT can begin damage assessment within hours.
  • When power and communications are cut off following a hurricane or other severe weather, CAT can deploy satellite communications trucks to facilitate voice/data transfer, thus enabling uninterrupted claims processing.
  • In addition to claims professionals, CAT employs administrative and I.T. staff, project managers, and supervisors. CAT can handle all of the logistics, including establishing office space and voice and data communication.
  • As a publicly traded company on the New York Stock Exchange, Crawford is subject to the requirements of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act.
Customized Services
CAT Services customizes its services to meet the needs of insurers. Volume permitting, CAT Services can designate a claims professional or a full-service team to work under a client’s supervision. CAT Services can provide a small team to work from a nearby Crawford office or can establish a stand-alone, dedicated claims center near the devastated area. Before catastrophes hit, CAT Services can help insurers identify their most sensitive exposures and create contingency plans that allow insurers to continue to serve policyholders in emergency situations.

CAT Services sets itself apart from other independent adjusters by virtue of our claims professionals and how we employ them. We regularly verify credentials; perform background checks and drug tests; and verify bondability. We can assign claims professionals on the basis of a client’s specific certification requirements; in all cases, CAT aims to assign claims professionals based on compatibility with the client’s corporate culture and priorities.
Crawford CAT personnel meet the same exacting standards required of all other Crawford associates. They must pass background checks and drug screening and be bonded. Personnel are also covered under our workers’ compensation policies as well as our professional liability (E&O) policy.
